Modern Foreign Languages
French at St Michael’s is taught all year round in Key Stage 2 and during the Summer term of Year 2. The teachers are supported by lesson planning and additional resources where the children have the opportunity to listen to a foreign language spoken by a native speaker.
As a language learner, the children develop speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. The teaching should enable pupils to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and in writing. It should also provide opportunities for them to communicate for practical purposes.
The children learn vocabulary through themed topics such as colours, weather, pets, greetings, numbers etc.
French is taught weekly.
