Physical Education

PE at St. Michael’s encourages and enthuses children to engage in competitive sports and activities and to lead healthy active lifestyles. It is taught in 2 x 1hr sessions per week per Year group. In these sessions, fundamental movement skills incorporating running, jumping, throwing, catching, balance, co-ordination and agility are developed and modified to enable all pupils to enjoy playing a variety of competitive games applying basic skills for attacking and defending, all the while communicating and collaborating as a team. Flexibility, strength, technique, control and balance are developed through gymnastics and dances are created and performed using a range of movements. Pupils also have the opportunity to take part in outdoor adventurous activity challenges both individually and as a team. Swimming lessons begin in KS2 where children are expected to achieve 25m by the end of Y6.
