Science

At St Michael's C of E Academy the science curriculum is organised into three main areas; Biology, Physics and Chemistry. With the overarching principles of scientific enquiry.

Teachers plan science on a medium term basis and teach it as a discrete subject on a weekly basis. They assess scientific enquiry on a termly basis using pupil asset. The science subject lead monitors science through lesson observations, book look, pupil voice and analysing data.      .

Science can link to other subjects and teachers will make these links where possible to enhance the teaching and learning of science.  For example, English; report writing. Maths; graphs and tables for experiments.

Children are given opportunities for learning beyond the classroom through trips to places such as Houghton Hall, Harding’s Pits and a farm. Within the school children are able to grow vegetables on our vegetable patch, go pond dipping and do experiments outside such as rockets.

Resources are organised in a cupboard with numbered boxes which are easily accessible.
